    Satisfying a Citation / Complaint

An appearance /arraignment date is ten (10) days from the date of the citation. The defendant must appear on or before the appearance date or a failure to appear may result in additional charges being filed, and the issuance of arrest warrants on all charges. A citation / complaint may be satisfied by paying in full, appearing before the Judge for pay options, entering a plea of Not Guilty with case set for trial, or requesting one of the following options.

    Driving Safety Courses
You may be able to take a driving safty course to satisfy your citation. This may be done in person or by certified mail on or before your arraignment date. You may complete the form attached to your citation and send it in with the fees and documents or write a request entering a plea and requesting defensive driving. Once your request is granted you will have 90 days to complete the course and to provide the Court with the required documents. If a violation is dismissed under this option, it will not be reported as a conviction on your driving record.

Requirements for approval are as follows:

    • You must possess a valid Texas Driver's License
    • You cannot have taken the course within the past 12 months for another violation
    • You must have proof of Financial Responsibility
    • You cannot be charged with speeding in excess of 25 MPH over the posted limit
    • You cannot be charged with Passing/Overtaking a School Bus
    • For other charges, call Court

    Deferred Adjudication
Deferred Adjudication is a form of probation that you, your attorney, or the prosecuting attorney may request of the Judge. Only the Judge can grant this option of fulfilling the requirements of a violation. If granted, there are fees assessed, you will be put on a 90 to 180 day probationary period, and you may be required to take a driving saftey course, or assessed other requirements. If the requirements have been met by the completion date, the charge will be dismissed and no record of the conviction will result.

    Other Dismissals
Some violations may be dismissed upon request if you provide proof that correction was made prior to your arraignment date. There may be an administrative dismissal fee charged. The following are some of those violations:

    • Expired License Plate (exp. registration) - $20.00 dismissal fee
    • Expired MVI (motor vehicle inspection) - $20.00 dismissal fee
    • Expired Driver's License - $20.00 dismisal fee
    • Fail to Carry and Display Driver's License - call Court for specifics
    • Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility (no insurance) - Call Court for amounts due
