City Government

The City of Bridge City is ruled by a home rule charter, herein prescribed the Home Rule Charter of the City of Bridge City. The Home Rule Charter may be found in the beginning of the Bridge City Code of Ordinances.

Form of Government

The City operates under a “Council-Manager” form of government as provided for in the City Charter, Article I, Section 1.02. The “Council-Manager” form of government combines the leadership of elected officials with the managerial experience of an appointed City Manager.

City Council

The City Council is the legislative and governing body of the City of Bridge City and consists of a Mayor and six Council members, as explained in the City Charter, Article III. The City Council enacts local legislation, and its members are the City’s decision makers. It adopts budgets, determines policies, and focuses on the City’s goals, major projects, and such long-term considerations as City growth, land use development, capital improvement plans, capital financing and strategic planning.

Appointed Positions

The City Council also appoints the City Attorney, City Secretary, Municipal Court Judge, and Associate Municipal Court Judge as set out in the City Charter, Article IV.
